PORTLAND, Ore. (October 12, 2004)
In July of this year, e-Marketing
company eROI released a Q2'04 study that
showed the most effective days to send email marketing.
In that study, "How's Monday for You?", it was found
that Monday was the best day to send marketing email,
even though Tuesday and Wednesday were currently the
prime days. The study has recently been updated to
include numbers released for Q3'04. The major findings
show that Monday leads the pack with number of reads.
The trend heads downward as the week progresses. Clicks
follow the same pattern, with higher numbers on Monday
and a lower trend towards the end of the week, though
there is a slight upward tick in reads on
Friday.
The updated study finds that Thursday has
taken over as the day with the highest number of emails
sent, as compared to three months ago, when Tuesday saw
the biggest spike. "We see that things are smoothing out
a bit in clicks and reads, but people seem to get tired
of reading and clicking on email as the week progresses.
Provide your offers early in the week as most people are
still reading their emails at work," said eROI email
analyst Jeff Mills.
In studying full-service
versus self-service email marketing numbers, it was
found that there was a 52.8% increase in read rates and
a 73.2% increase in click rates with clients who used
eROI's full-service email marketing offerings. These
results are likely due to the ever-changing environment
of email marketing and the dynamic relationship
marketers must have with their customers. eROI
email statistics show that increasing the effectiveness of
your marketing budget is directly related to utilizing a
strong email marketing agency for your e-Marketing
efforts.
In the original Q2'04 study, eROI
studied results from more than 7.7 million commercial
messages sent over 30-days by more than 6,000 marketers
from a wide range of industries, and found that
recipients actually open and click a lot more on Monday.
The latest update solidifies that trend.
"Monday is coming across as the clear leader even though it has
the lowest volume of the work week, because recipients
are more likely to read their email," said Mills. Email
fatigue also hasn't set in yet on the first workday of
the week, he adds. "People appear to be less bothered by
this lower volume of email. Work hasn't really piled up
for the week yet, so they have the time to read and
respond."
